Dorrel McDonald
Biography
Deacon Dorrel McDonald is one of eleven children, born to Joslyn and Murdela McDonald in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. Dorrel attended Trout Hall All Age School and upon graduation, became an apprentice. In his late twenties, he accepted the Lord as his Saviour and joined the Holy Quietness Church of God in Jamaica.
Dorrel migrated to Canada in 1988 and experienced some difficulties transitioning to his new lifestyle. However, holding strongly to his faith, was the key in keeping him on the right path. In 1989, Deacon McDonald met Rozena, and got married a year later. Their union produced three children: Romeo, Nathan and Nicholas.
In 1998 he joined the Church of God of Prophecy and has been actively engaged in various ministries. Deacon McDonald exemplifies what it means to serve with passion and excellence. He has served in Building Management, Hospitality and Bus Ministry. As a key leader of the Building Management Team, he helps to streamline procedures and processes for the rest of the team. He may be seen on many Sunday mornings, ensuring that the sanctuary is ready to welcome worshipers. As a member of the Hospitality Team, he serves as Usher Captain for the local church and for district and regional events in Eastern Canada. He faithfully drove the church bus for many years, providing transportation for visitors and members who otherwise would be unable to attend services. All ministries benefit from his dedication and sacrificial service.
The Church of God of Prophecy in Eastern Canada (COGOP) has also benefited greatly from Deacon McDonald’s desire to see the work of the Lord thrive. His “Gift of Helps” has been impactful for Conventions, Conferences, Leadership Developments, Retreats, Camps, and other national events. Because of his unwavering support and reliability, many Ministry leaders were able to carry on the work without worry.
In 2004, Dorrel was appointed to be a Trial Deacon. Although he was hesitant about the scope of the role, he accepted. He remembered that the Lord admonishes us to minister to those in need and to spread His Word. He thereby pledged, with humility of spirit, to serve as a true servant of God. After completing all the necessary requirements and training, Deacon McDonald received the Foundations Certificate on December 17th, 2007. He was officially ordained on November 2, 2008.
North Park is blessed to have Deacon Dorrel McDonald, who is passionate, reliable and dedicated, to serve his church and community.
