Fitzroy Matthews
Biography
Pastor Fitzroy Matthews was born in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, and came to faith in Christ as a teenager. He became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Clarendon, and worked in several ministries as he continued to grow and develop in his faith.
Fitzroy had the opportunity to serve in leadership positions for a variety of ministries. He was a Sunday School teacher, Youth Ministry Director, as well as the local Evangelism Director. Pastor Matthews developed a passion for the lost, and continually sought out ways and opportunities to do outreach across the island of Jamaica. To win the lost for Christ, he participated in revivals, youth camps, and retreats.
Pastor Matthews migrated to Canada in 1995 to join his family and became a valued member of North Park Worship Centre. The following year, he married Cora Thompson. With her support, he continued to actively serve in different ministries – Evangelism, Sunday School, Small Groups, and Pastoral Care. His unique style of connecting individually with members and visitors made a significant impact in these ministries.
His passion for people and for God’s Word, led him to pursue his Ministry Development Training (MDT) through Oral Roberts University. In 2017, after four years of dedicated study, he was among the first group of participants in Eastern Canada to complete the program. Pastor Matthews has also sought to serve individuals in the community, and earned a Diploma in Addiction and Community Service from Everest College. He works as an Autism Support Assistant in Brampton, enabling his clients to live more independent lives.
Currently, he serves as a Pastor at North Park Worship Centre and seeks to carry out the mission of the Church. He does so by impacting the community through authentic Christian living and preaching and teaching the Word of God. He is the Director of the Prayer Ministry and a member of the Community Outreach. He participates in Love Brampton, an annual collaboration organized by a group of churches in Brampton to showcase God’s love and kindness in the community. Additionally, Pastor Matthews is an enthusiastic participant in the Coldest Night of the Year Walk; an annual fundraiser, in support of Regeneration Outreach Community and is North Park’s representative on the Brampton Ministerial Association.
When not ministering to others, he enjoys being in his kitchen. He has an extensive and flavourful menu that the North Park family has experienced. We always look forward with anticipation to his exquisite cooking and baking. Additionally, Pastor Matthews may be caught watching a good movie, in his
leisure time.
North Park Worship Centre is blessed to have him, along with Pastor Mark Lawrence, at the helm of its Pastoral Team.
