Wilton Washington Walters
Biography
Deacon Wilton Walters was born in Saint Andrews, Jamaica, the third of five boys. At the age of seventeen, he was saved and baptised. He later became an usher and choir member within his local church.
Wilton attended Kingston Technical High School. After graduation, his first job was as a judge’s assistant at the Sutton Street Resident Magistrate Court in Kingston. Three years later, he changed jobs to become a correctional officer and worked in a penal institution for over a decade. It was while guarding a prisoner at a hospital, Wilton met and fell in love with his beautiful wife, Yvonne, a nurse. They have been married for over thirty years and have three wonderful daughters.
In 1990, Wilton migrated to Canada and continued to work with individuals in the justice system. He worked with various Federal and Young Offenders in half-way houses and group homes. Wilton pursued further education and earned several honours diplomas. He is currently working as a Developmental Services Worker, with the Ministry of Social Services. Through his work in social services, he has been fortunate to volunteer with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to the elderly for over two decades.
In 2013, he started attending North Park Worship Centre, as a visitor. He was impacted by the worship and the Word. The passion and reverence seen, coupled with the undistilled preaching and teaching of the Word, were deciding factors in making North Park his home church. His next step was to find a way to utilize his gifts and talents. He seized the opportunity to do so, by becoming a member of the Hospitality Team, specifically an usher. Deacon Walters still faithfully serves in this role and sees it as an exciting way of being of service in the local church. He is an Usher Captain, and a lead Usher for the youth.
His faithful service and commitment, led to an appointment in 2018, as a Trial Deacon. After completing all the necessary requirements and training, Wilton became a Deacon. He currently serves in this capacity, which affords him the opportunity to participate in visitations to Tall Pines Senior Long Term Care in Brampton. There, he is able to preach short sermons to the residents. Additionally, Deacon Walters serves as a member of the following teams: Building Management, Pastoral Care and COGOP Eastern Canada’s Hospitality. His compassion for those in need led him, in collaboration with others, to spearhead a food drive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Deacon Walters is enrolled in the Ministry Development Training (MDT), to further his knowledge of the Word and leadership responsibilities. Although he is not sure where God is leading him, he is being obedient to God’s calling.
One of his favourite Scriptures is Ephesians 2:8:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (KJV)
North Park is blessed to have Deacon Wilton Walters who is passionate and dedicated to serve his local church and community.
