Kyrel Thompson was born and raised in a Christian home in Brampton, Ontario. His family attended the Downsview Church of God of Prophecy, where he had early exposure to the Word, Worship, and a Christ-led life. Youth Group, Summer Youth Camp and his family, were major influences, which led him to make a decision to serve the Lord as a teenager.
Kyrel found ways to serve in the church. For example, he was a member of the planning committee for the COGOP Eastern Canada’s Youth Camp, and later became a regular volunteer. Subsequently, he developed his passion for the Youth Ministry, and has been serving as Youth Leader at North Park, since 2010.
Pastor Kyrel’s passion for Youth Ministry comes from the following convictions:
- Youth need a safe space that offers holistic development
- Christianity is relational; it is about authentic relationship with God and His people
- Every young person has gifts, talents and abilities that may be used for God’s glory.
Kyrel mentors, motivates, inspires and encourages numerous youth within the local church and GTA. His shared-leadership approach allows Youth Leaders to experience all aspects of ministry. His outstanding work with the Youth at North Park, along with a recognition of his calling, led to his appointment as the Youth Pastor in 2018. Pastor Kyrel’s commitment to ministry has led him to pursue training through the Ministry Development Training (MDT) Program.
Pastor Kyrel graduated from York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, with a special interest in crime prevention through social community development. This has helped to shape his work with youth and individuals in the community.
When not doing ministry, Pastor Kyrel is probably playing video games, watching movies or reading. He loves food, basketball, and spending time with his family.
North Park Worship Centre is blessed to have Pastor Kyrel Thompson as the Youth Pastor. His preaching and teaching of the Word are not just impactful for the youth, but the entire church as well.
